A fire in the upholstering room at Downing baby carriage works caused heavy losses. Estimated damage to the factory and stock not less than 125000, with insurance of 50000. The blaze, Erie area’s largest, also affected the neighboring merchant mill owned by Phineas and O E Crouch. Fatal Duel at Tracey Run Affects Two Married Men
A jealous confrontation at the Tracey Run lumber camp near Kinzua led to a deadly stabbing. Milo Wheeler was killed after a knife wound delivered by rival Walker following a dispute over Mrs. J. Smith, who with her husband and Wheeler had planned to leave the camp for Liverpool. Walker was arrested and jailed, Wheeler died the next day from the chest wound.
