Washington reports state several hundred seamen and workers bound for Bristol Bay Alaska from Seattle are stranded on a heavy ice floe. The government ice breaker Roosevelt has gone to their aid. The Thoma reported crushed and sunk, and survivors from the Tacoma are located with the Centennial.
Washington June 10 The ways and means committee began hearings to locate excess profits from the first year of the war for the new revenue bill. Testimony from the War Industries Board suggested excess profits were exaggerated by profiteering stories and possibly misled President Wilson. The panel planned a week of closed hearings tracing war profits behind the scenes while awaiting treasury and War Department data to clarify the income and excess profits taxes.

Washington June 10 A sundry civil appropriation bill carrying direct appropriations and authorizations totaling 2 862 752 237 to fund all civil agencies for the near fiscal year was reported to the House this afternoon by Chairman Shirley of the appropriations Committee. Of the total 1 761 701 000 goes to the emergency fleet corporation shipbuilding program and 842 500 goes to maintaining the Shipping Board itself.

London reports casualties from German air raids on hospitals in France now total 901, according to an official parliamentary statement this afternoon.

Washington June 10 Secretary Baker told the senate military affairs committee there has been no final disposition of the Wood case regarding Maj. Gen. Leonard Wood removal from command of the Eighty ninth division. He faced two hours of questioning, offering little new light while focusing on provisions of the $12,000,000,000 army bill awaiting Senate action and possible increases in appropriations.
