The frontline clashes along the Marne Champagne sector continue with heavy artillery duels and fierce infantry exchanges. Despite some pauses, large enemy reserves remain active as forces contest key positions and the battlefield shakes with continuous bombardment.
Reports from International News Service say American and Allied forces halted the German offensive along an eight mile front between Vaux and Chezy and near LaChappelle on the Marne. Paris July 16 The first day of the German offensive on the Marne Champaign front yielded the smallest gains of any war action so far.
