The Board of Trade considered starting a night school tied to public schooling. A four-branch program costing about 7.50 per pupil monthly was proposed for 24 enrollees, with four teachers paid per night. Publicity was tasked to broaden interest and reduce per-pupil costs, with chemistry reduced from the planned curriculum.
The Great Hecla ore shoot shows five feet of solid high grade galena on the 2000 level with no zinc. The 2000 level face, 1800 feet long and 400 feet above the 1600, promises to sustain or improve the bonanza and boost proved ore reserves far below the 2000 level while lead prices fall. Columbus Mining company crews on east Eagle creek have built a new work camp near the lower tunnel portal to house workers during winter. The tunnel, begun in summer, advances 80 feet into quartzite with the vein expected to be reached within about 20 feet, promising a depth beyond 500 feet. The 1400 foot upper tunnel, 200 feet above, has opened three veins with lead-silver ore showing high silver values.
