In Copper Flat Nevada engineers set off twelve tons of powder in eight holes high on a hill. The top of the mountain rose and slid away, estimated at 200 000 tons. Spectators saw a quiet but massive explosion as the earth shifted, while Rath school pupils paused to witness the operation.

Quicksilver in Idaho Districts in Yellow Pine Mining Area
A Geological Survey study of Idaho quiksilver deposits notes Yellow Pine in Valley county as the main active district. Copper cinnabar ore occurs near limestone quartzite contacts, with no large ore bodies yet found but fair future prospects. Isolation from transport remains the main development hurdle, as a 70 mile Cascade road is steep and slow. The bulletin Geography of the Yellow Pine Cinnabar Mining District Idaho is available free from the US Geological Survey director.
