Elk Mining Company plans to start operations next week at the Blackhawk vein area near Mill Creek, about a mile and a half from Mullan. The Lucretia, Stillwater fraction, and Contact claims cover carbonate and sulphide lead-silver ore with a 900 foot tunnel and a prospect shaft, with a deeper 300 foot tunnel under way on Contact to extend west toward Independence.
