Revival in Mining Sparks District Development Push

Encouraging Indications In National Crosscut Ore Find

Reports from the National yesterday said small stringers of lead and copper were found in the crosscut extension, raising hope of opening an ore body within 150 feet. The crosscut reached about 140 feet, vein expected within 250 to 400 feet, with the east crosscut still in the sheared vein showing oxidation and some values. The property is ready for production and a commercial ore body would please stockholders who have National investments on the loss side.

Republicans in Shoshone county hold caucuses for delegates

Republicans across Shoshone county will hold caucuses Monday to elect delegates to the county convention at Liberty theatre Wallace on April 20. The convention will pick six delegates for the state convention at Coeur d Alene on April 28, where eight delegates go to the National convention in Chicago in June. Caucuses in Wallace start 7:30 pm with precincts announcing polling sites Precinct 1 High school building seven delegates Precinct Red Cross room Gyde Taylor six delegates Precinct 3 Wallace hotel two delegates Precinct 4 District court room seven delegates.

Idaho & Los Angeles Drift Shows Encouraging Results

The Idaho and Los Angeles company reports winter work on its Beaver Creek side vein near Missoula Gulch head, about a mile and a half from Beaver Creek railroad at Carbonite. A cross cut 260 feet south from the main tunnel reached the vein, then a drift west 200 feet. Vein width varies one to four feet with assays showing 045 ounce silver, 19 percent lead and 2 percent inc. The gains are seen as promising but not a large milling body.

Olympia and Rose Likely to Be Developed by Brags Co

The Brags cores company led by Patrick Brady plans rapid action on the Olympia and Rose claims west of Green Hill-Cleveland and south of Tam burack and Custer. Ownership corrected to J H Nordquist owning one sixteenth, Walter H Hanson one sixteenth, and Fat Sullivan seven eights. Development includes crosscutting from Headlight workings, new bunk house and blacksmith shop, with two shifts soon driving a crosscut to the Rose ground.

Democratic Meeting Packed by Day Mine Faction in Wallace

A Wallace gathering of over 150 Day mine operatives crowded the district court room to push a pro Day machine agenda in the Shoshone County Democratic meeting. Led by EB. B. Meyer and Frank M. Shreve, the session nominated H J Hult for chairman and reaffirmed a party club under Day control, while anti Day figures led by Judge Weniger failed to stop the steamroller. A Kellogg delegate, Lester S. Harrison, urged unity amid suspicion of past Boise caucus actions designed to unseat the state chairman.

Stewart Mine Prospect Revives Hope Of Production

J. E. Harrington of New York, president of the Stewart Mining Co, says geologists favor continuing prospecting for ore east of the fault after a thorough study of the nine. Stewart once was a leading producer and dividend payer in the district, and success could revive its past output. Harrington spoke during a Nabob visit weeks ago, and also heads the Nabob Co, controlled by Stewart.

Lead-Silver Zinc Ore Mill Expected to Run Steady This Week

The text notes the mill will operate steadily this week with enough ore in a shift to sustain two shifts. The mine can maintain full-time operation and contains lead-silver and zinc ore, though for now only lead concentrates will be shipped.

Three Men Driving Crosscut at Horseshoe Mine Near Mullan

J B Scoles manager of Horseshoe Mining reports three men are driving a crosscut toward a vein about 400 feet below the surface. One vein has been cut at 140 feet showing lead-silver ore. About 700 feet remain to reach under the main surface. The property lies about a mile and a half southeast of Mullan.

R N Sharp engineer for Nabob Consolidated Mining reports the mill operated part of last Saturday and all of Sunday with results in all respects satisfactory, indicating steady progress in testing and production readiness for the Nabob operation.

Interchurch World Movement Opens in Wallace Idaho

The Interchurch world movement launches in Shoshone County with an April 9 meeting at the Wallace Methodist church to mobilize funding for a global campaign. Thirty denominations cooperate across the nation to pledge 836.8 million dollars in 1920, with 175.4 million due this year, as Inland Empire speakers outline the two year drive from April 1 to May 2.

Airplanes to Aid Mine Rescue Work

The bureau of mines plans to test aeroplanes with the Army Air Service this spring in Minnesota and Indiana to transport mine rescue crews and equipment to disaster sites. Thomas Sullivan, a well known Mullan citizen, has left for Sault Ste. Marie Michigan after his father’s death.

Hall 1 hopeful federal aid for roads in Idaho

W. J. Hall of Boise, commissioner of public works, said Congress may extend federal aid for road building. Six Cars a Month at Government Gulch Mill

L Hewitt manager of the Mullan company with the Ontario tailings dump lease in Government Gulch spoke of a 200 ton mill designed to treat tailings. The process uses fine grinding and flotation to recover value. The operation ships six carloads monthly at about 3 percent lead and 60 ounces silver yielding roughly 2800 per car. Hecla Mining Co 1919 Annual Report Highlights

Hecla Mining Company stockholders receive the 1919 report by Ames P. McCarthy noting development on the Ore Omogo vein was limited by worker shortages and low ore content. The 2000-foot level yielded satisfactory ore, with total dividends of 6 00 000 for the year and 7 965 000 by year end. Taxes on income and excess profits for 1917 and 1918 are unsettled awaiting IRS decision. The company reports 1 017 230 48 in net ore sales and 1 692 771 28 in total income against mining and development expenditures of 6 099 449 (Continued on Page 6).
