Nellie Mine Shows Dual Veins and Rich Silver Potential

J A Alger completed last year’s assessment on the Nellie and plans more work this year. A short crosscut 500 feet east of the shaft targets a possible ore shoot above the main tunnel. The mine hosts a rich gray copper vein with a parallel lead-silver vein about 60 feet north, which could shift development priorities if proven productive. Previous owners shipped substantial high grade ore, with some years averaging 75 ounces of silver and peaks to 250 ounces.

Brady Development advances crosscut at Rose and Olympia vein

Patrick Brady, manager of Brady Development, reported from Coeur d'Alene that the crosscut to the Rose and Olympia vein has been advanced about 1400 feet and the face lies beyond the expected cut if the vein kept a uniform dip. Mine is highly mineralized with increased water flow, suggesting the vein is near but may require blasting. Operations paused briefly earlier in the week due to weather threats. Brady could not specify a dropout duration but noted safety from snowslides.

Marsh seeks to prove apex of Russell vein crosses end line

The Marah company extends the Russell tunnel east about 700 feet toward the run line to force a surface raise on the vein and show the apex crosses the end line. Judge Deitrich rejected Marsh crosscut with raise but allowed renewal on evidence the apex extends east of the Russell claim end line. Heela counters that the apex is about 1200 feet east in a tunnel lacking an apex and may cross the north side line instead.

Eldorado Crosscut Shows Rich Lead Silver Vein

Eldorado Mining and Smelting reports a promising lead-silver ore showing near Kellogg on the north bank of the river. A crosscut 150 feet from the main tunnel exposed the ledge with scattered metal, marking the first lead-silver find on the property where gold had been the primary value. The vein width is not yet determined but prospects for a larger body are favorable as drift work begins.

Metal Market Shows Improvement Amid Mixed Lead Prospects

The Engineering and Mining Journal reviews a firmer metal market for the week ending January 12 with rising prices, stronger demand for consumption and speculation, and a cautious outlook due to cheap foreign lead. Zinc remains the weakness with little anticipated movement until European stocks clear, while lead remains firm and futures demand continues among speculators. The battery and auto industries are expected to boost lead use in the coming months.
