Passing of Planters Hotel Marks End of an Era
The long awaited closing of the Planters hotel signals the end of a storied hostelry once central to Missouri politics and Southern hospitality. Built 1917, the four story Planters became a social hub hosting presidents and notable figures, with a key and commemorative horse shoe marking its historic exits. The building will be converted into an office after January, transforming rooms where presidents slept into bureaucratic spaces and memories into commerce.

Argentine Ceasers Mine Prepares for Production
The Argentine mine rapid to operate a 2200 foot gravity bucket tramway to deliver ore from the tunnel to a rail side bin. The railroad will add a spur for loading and ore will ship to the Sweeny mill. Underground cleanup, pump and hoist installation and old-workout prep have cost much but reflect rich ore and future expansion. The mine lies about two and a half miles west of Wallace. A Seattle test shows wood briquette fuel equal in heating value to anthracite coal, made from sawdust bark and mill refuse.

Lincoln's Legal Fees and Frugal Practices Highlight His Character
The account notes Abraham Lincoln avoided divorce cases, charged varied fees from $1.25 to $5000 with protest from the Illinois Central railroad, and often did not write briefs. It mentions a farm possession case where a $200 fee matched the opposing lawyer's fee the next day, illustrating his cautious approach to charges.
