Days of Old and Gold in the Coeur d'Alenes described
The 1889 Butte story reprinted sketches life during the 1884-85 stampede to Eagle City Murray and nearby gulches. It recounts brutal winter travel through deep snow to Eagle City, a log station with bunking tents, and crowding of stampeders amid hunger cold and heavy whiskey. Gunplay and rough justice marked the frontier town scenes with deaths and lawlessness.
