Sunshine Mining to Build Mill on Big Creek Site

Sunshine Mining company manager W F Newton announces a December 6 start on a 40 to 50 ton daily mill, duplicating the nearby Bix Creek plant with lower capacity. The operation will run full time with ore from Yankee Bay and upper leases, as drifting toward Polaris continues. Ore, largely gray copper with about 100 ounces of silver per ton, is shipped to East Helena for refining as plans for extensive tunneling expand the Big Creek ground and leasing program grows.

High Smelter Returns on Ore From Western Union Mine

The first ore car from the Western Union to the Bunker Hill smelter grossed 5151.36 with a net of 3718.88 for 45 tons. Two more cars have shipped with returns pending and expect similar or better results. Leasers add two hand figs and plan improved sorting to double capacity as Western Union cleans No 8 tunnel for ventilation and mine access.

Explosives Prices Cut Across 40 Percent Gelatin Powder

Dupont reduces prices by 50 cents per hundred pounds on 40 per cent gelatin and stamping powder effective November 29. 60 per cent gelatin unchanged. Wallace Powder Co. distributes notices. this marks the third price change this year following March 1 and September 1 hikes. Net yearly price remains higher than prewar levels.

Directors Return From New York Mining Board Meeting

Elks Memorial Service Set At Temple Sunday

Wallace Lodge No. 1131 to hold annual memorial service at Elk Temple Sunday at 2 30 pm. James Emmett Heyes of Spokane to deliver the principal address. The program includes invocations solos and the reading of The Vacant Chair. Several lodge members died since last memorial day. Total membership 1089.

Marsh Mines to Press Litigation Over Hecla Apex

Trustees of Marsh Mines Consolidated inform stockholders preparations continue to litigate against Hecla. A one cent per share assessment will cover preliminary costs while seeking substantial financial aid, possibly from Eugene R. Day, to lessen stockholder burden.

Hennessey Burns team surveys snowbound mine site

Joseph F. Whelan manager of the Hennessey Burns company visited the property the first of the week and found about four feet of snow on the summit above Burke. Assessment work continues in a crosscut toward a vein 500 feet below the surface with a strong ore show. No work beyond annual assessment planned at present.

Valentine Mining Company to Winter Work Near Deborgia

A. L. Thurston, vice president and manager, will supervise winter development for the Valentine Mining Company. Supplies are on hand and another miner will assist. The property lies about five miles from Deborgia, Montana, adjoining the former Rock Island property, which has yielded lead and silver ore and is now under further development by an eastern capital backed company. The surface and underground showings on the Valentine are described as the most encouraging.

Gold Hunter Takes Bond and Lease on Paymaster Group

Gold Hunter Mining and Smelting Co has secured a bond and lease on the Paymaster group, linking with the Hunter holdings to the west and the American Commander to the north. The Paymaster property, once developed by three tunnels, shows strong prospect, with Tunnel No. 2 being reactivated for winter work. The Paymaster group is owned by the estate of the late Thomas L. Greenough, represented by Leo Greenough of Troy Montana.

Imperial Main Tunnel Raise Nearing Ore Vein Reach

The Imperial main tunnel raise advances toward a vein predicted to dip from the upper tunnel. A 27-foot raise found a stringer of ore. plans push to reach the vein within about 150 feet. A new hoist aids muck handling and a sled system moves ore cars without propulsion. William Blom of Mann Lumber lists as Valentine Co. president after a deer hunt.

Board of Trade hears mining talks and trail update

Sidney L. Shonts led a timely board meeting with two speakers. D A Callahan reported New York conditions and midwest trends, noting half a million idle men in New York and bank failures in the plains. H M Miller, from Day mines, gave Denver Mining Congress insights on federal taxes and freight rates, backing repeal of excess profits tax and revised income tax, plus open shop support and adjusted ore shipping costs via coast routes. F B Stone reported Yellowstone Trail debate over consolidating information bureaus, with Missoula and Spokane positions argued.
