Chilean authorities aim to transform Crusoe Island Juan Fernandez group 460 miles west of Valparaiso into a health resort. The island, about 1% miles long and four miles wide, features abundant vegetation and cod-rich seas. The tale of Robinson Crusoe traces to Alexander Selkirk marooned there for four years, with Selkirk's grotto and a tablet commemorating him once placed by a British warship in 1865.
