Hecla takeover bid fails at Spokane annual meeting
At the Spokane annual meeting last Tuesday the Day Smith effort to control Hecla Mining failed as stockholders rejected their proxy majority. Mrs Sarah F Smith remained on the board with 93 000 shares while B R Day held 20 000 of the 160 000 shares under Day Smith control leaving 47 000 unaffiliated. The old board was reelected amid district relief that ongoing production and worker welfare would continue and fears of a Tamarack like dividend collapse if control had shifted. Gray explained litigation terms aiding value, while Days questioned underground workings and the Thunker Hill ore contract as part of background chatter. A discussion on increasing capitalization to dodge taxes under federal law was referred without action.
