Truettner Named Committee Leader in State Senate
Senator W F Truettner was named chair of the executive business committee in the state senate by Lieutenant Governor Thomas Read and will also serve on the finance and appropriations committee. John Holland of Gogebic County was named chair of the Boys Industrial School committee and assigned to labor railroads and the Michigan School for the Deaf. George Welsh was elected speaker as Holland’s bid failed. The tax committee report urged modest changes, including a one cent gasoline tax, funneling revenue to the State Highway Fund, preserving tax exemptions on bonds, and adopting a New York style tax on intangible property with a rise in state and local bond taxes.
