Ore Being Shipped From Morgan Mine
The Morgan mine of the Thomas Furnace Company shipped its first tonnage of iron ore on Tuesday. Four cars about 200 tons were consigned to the Milwaukee-based Thomas Furnace Co. Shipments of several hundred tons daily are planned for the winter, with remaining ore moved by lake routes when navigation opens. The old Brotherton mine hoist was dismantled for parts to aid other mines. Miners on the Gogebic district are well employed with pay around 4.50 to 4.60 per hour and 35 cents for common labor. Major mines and operators across Ironwood to Bessemer show extensive activity, electrification projects, new hoists, and large workforce plans for the season.
