Col James F Curtis died of hemorrhage from the lungs at Petosky Michigan on September 16 at age 38 He was a son in law of B D Sherwood of Elkhart and a brave soldier in the Rebellion The Elkhart Daily Observer notes his funeral arrival of the coffin to Elkhart and the large procession with band fire department soldiers and mourners paying tribute to the late officer.
