Fate of Curious Cougars near Messiers

Miss Mary Burr, teacher at Messiers near Ranier forestry reserve, was stalked by a second eight foot cougar. A hunting party, including J. Cook and A. Fenton, pursued and mortally wounded the animal after it killed a dog. The cats appeared to follow people out of curiosity and did not threaten depredations.

New Method of Identifying Criminals Devised by Prof Tamassia

A novel identification method by Prof. Tamassia relies on photographing veins on the back of hands after briefly bandaging the wrist to make them stand out. A saloonkeeper is appointed police magistrate in reward for faithful service. In his first case the defendant pleads drunkenness, but the magistrate, fumbling with his desk, prompts the accused with a cigar as a pretext to proceed. The exchange underscores the muggy irony of a judge who may not share the habit he enforces.

It is pitiful how many British children are generally deficient in teeth yet experts are tackling the issue. The piece warns against a tragedy where well grown youths would display decayed teeth despite progress.

Shrewd Pastor Leach Jests on Salary and Sermons

A fragment shows Pastor Leach claiming his pay rise would shorten his sermons, provoking a wary comment about inducements. The line hints at satire within a church scene and hints at the broader issue of compensation in ministry. The source preserves the wry tone and period voice.
