The note sheet reports assorted local items from Churchill and Reno areas. Mentions weather, visitors, road trips, lake water pumping, fair preparations, and various residents and officials traveling for the Stave Fair and other events.
R H Cowles prepares for fish shipments at Pyramid Lake while Griswold ships the season’s first catch. A. F. Rooker of San Francisco visits Austin connections to buy horses for the Frito market, then travels to Churchill and Reese rivers on the same mission. U S Post Office Inspector Sam Thrall visited town on official business and found conditions satisfactory. Brakeman Harry M Shreve injured his right hand while unloading a hog, left for the Rail Road Hospital. Hon Francia G Newlands spoke on the agricultural possibilities of Nevada at the Mena pavilion. Dave Wastheim and E Z Bailey return from mountain prospecting with several finds and speculation on a Comstock lode extension. A group including Mesdames Whited, Geery, Shepley, Clispenger, Voorenes, Rellinagle and Weaver departed city for a riverside ranch excursion.
From Winnemucca Lake on September 14 1892 Brooks McClang writes of publishing the Wadsworth Dispatch. He notes a clash between Reno and Wadsworth residents over politics and a last night kitchen dispute ends without gunfire. He asks for a Nichol plated Colt and sends wishes for the diary project.
Mrs A F Clippinger and Mrs C B Macebean visited the school as a new class was moved to the higher room. Supplies arrive making the school well equipped. The Literary Society met with songs and a debate on Homestead rote justifiable with the negative winning. Pioneer Millinery offers Felt Dude hats trimmed for 175 dollars.
Sam Hill a well known vaquero from western Nevada was killed when passenger train No 4 struck him while he lay across the rails near the Central Pacific bridge over the Truckee river at Wadsworth. The body was found headless and mangled, with one leg severed, and the death attributed to being intoxicated and likely asleep on the tracks. The deceased leaves a Nevada family background and relatives in the area.
St James Misstox holds services every Sunday at dix m and & p m led by Rev Cuan L Frremerin Rector. Sunday school at 3 p.m. with Mrs Avhby Superintendent and Miss Lundy assistant superintendent. Choir practices Fridays. All invited to join church work and support Dinkavenu News.
