Austin’s Tommy Steiner, a leading rodeo production expert, signed to produce and supply stock for the Heart O'Texas Fair in October. This marks his tenth consecutive year in the role. He will also produce Fort Worth’s 1963 Southwestern Exposition rodeo. Fair officials anticipate guest star celebrities, with one to be announced in June.
City officials, school leaders, bankers, and media heads met at the Raleigh hotel to hear progress on the tax equalization program begun a year ago. Mayor Stanton Brown Jr presided as the decline in northwest valuations was offset by new structures and shopping centers.
Karem Shriners staged two days of initiation activities with novices crossing burning sands and completing workouts on the Streets and at Guntermans Hotel Jail. A Friday parade and Saturday dance accompanied by a clown addition and a ladies luncheon at the King's Quarters Country Club highlighted the festivities.
Most Waco post offices will be closed Wednesday May 30 for Memorial Day. Only special delivery mail will be delivered. The Lake Air Beverly Hills East Waco and Robinson branches remain open.
War veterans and auxiliaries remember all wars with a 6 p.m. service at Rose Mound Cemetery. Gold Star Mothers join to place flags and floral wreaths on 165 buried veterans graves. Local residents urged to display US flags and attend the ceremony.

William N. Stanford aged 39 was found dead at his home in bed around 2 30 p m Saturday by his visiting brother J L Stanford. An inquest was held by Justice John Cabaniss and an autopsy ordered. Police found a Thorazine bottle and barbiturate like tablets. alcohol poisoning with respiratory failure blamed for the death. The scene showed signs of a struggle and a pistol was secured for safekeeping while Myrtle Stanford, 50, sat nearby.
A 1950 Chevrolet four door cleared the curb and struck a parked car on Franklin at Fourth, stopping before a plate glass window. Driver Walter Watson and another driver Elmer Powell were uninjured. Both deny running a red light as Officer W. Willis investigates the 5 p.m. crash at the Fourth Franklin intersection.
Company A First Battle Group 358th Infantry from Waco will conduct summer field training at Fort Polk Louisiana from June 3 to June 17. Captain Sandlin notes the two week program strengthens America's military readiness and urges employers to support reservists training this summer. After training, reservists return to civilian jobs.
Major Dello H. Jones of the Air Force Reserve in Waco was appointed liaison officer for the United States Air Force Academy.
