John Leslie secretary of labor reiterates that Lyndon Johnson had no role in appointing Jerry Holleman as assistant to Arthur Goldberg. He insists his prior report is true despite Senator Yarborough and other reporters disputing it.

A 58 year old woman paid a bogus poll tax of 1.75 to obtain a marriage license after the county clerk would not accept affidavits of distinterest ed persons showing applicants age over 21. The rule blocked an older mother from certifying her age for her daughter, delaying the marriage of Jane Borris to RH Neal amid other counties showing less strict enforcement.
A joint subcommittee from Waco and Beverly Hills met to pursue mutual aims including attracting industry and coordinating a regional street plan along Highway 6, New Road extension, and Beverly Memorial Drive. They compared tax and service costs and considered starting annexation proceedings into Waco. Water and sewer outside city limits were paused pending Beverly Hills council input.
Karem Temple Shriners restore Red Fez Day in downtown Waco with an old-fashioned ceremony and a 4 p.m. Friday parade. Novices will display antique street trimmings and the public can watch the street procession. More details to come Thursday plus a feature on the ladies’ role in the show.
