James Skidmore Jr national president of the Jaycees will attend a regular Waco Jaycees meeting on June 9 with special guest state president Glen Reed. Baylor coach John Bridgers and several football stars will join the luncheon honoring a student sponsored to Colorado.
Grand Jury foreman Col Helen Wendorf told Judge Vic Hall the panel will reconvene at 8 30 a m today to continue crime investigation deliberations. Eight true bills were returned for burglary theft unlawful use of auto and failing to stop and aid. Major General R L Murray will speak at a Loyalty Day rally hosted by the local Marine Corps unit at Linden Hall Elm Mott on May 29 with program to begin at 2 p m after a public dinner. The gathering starts at 1 p m.
Moore High School will graduate 170 seniors on Wednesday night June 1 at 8:00 at Waco Hall. Dr. John Q King president of Rouston Tillotson College will be the speaker. A band concert starts at 7:15. Other events include a Vesper Service May 29 at 5:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church speaker Reverend Deshong Smith. Class Night was held May 20 in the school gym.
Fishermen on Lake Waco and tributaries protested interference by skiers and bathers under an ordinance in force since 1954. Mayor P M Johnston led talks seeking a workable solution before US Army Corps of Engineers approval. A bus driver testified he spends all his time trot line fishing and noted no similar prohibitions elsewhere in Texas. Earl Holt gave the invocation as Rev M L Cooper Jr. missed service. The mayor also greeted Santa Gertrudis cattle buyers at Leggetts Auction barn in East Waco.
Local records show Fred Toone, already indicted on habitual criminal charges, linked to multiple burglaries and gun incidents around Elm Street and the city square. He is jailed on a $10,000 bond amid ongoing investigations, with authorities citing drug activity and ties to the Stand ard Hat break in. A separate stabbing case involved Betty Ramsey, with Anna Toone claiming self defense. no charges pressed as of Monday.
