Jaycees Honor Waco Officers For Bank Robbery Arrest

The Waco Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Officer Russell Martin and Recruit Mike Booker for the quick arrest of a Citizens National Bank robber on June 8. Sgt. Oliver Chambers was also cited for his role. Mayor P M Johnston and City Manager Elmer Roberts attended the noon luncheon. A film of the Indianapolis 500 1966 was shown.

Crime up 20 Percent in First Quarter 1967

FBI Uniform Crime Reports released by Attorney General Ramsey Clark show a 20 percent rise in serious crime in the United States for the first three months of 1967 versus 1966. Violent crimes rose 21 percent with murder up 23 and robbery up 32 percent.

Bill Miller, Waco Jaycee Speakers Bureau chairman for Hemis-Fair 68 and National Director of the U S Jaycees, spoke at the Elite Steakhouse. He was named International Ambassador by Hemis-Fair officials in San Antonio and outlined a statewide effort to educate Texans about the first world fair in the state.
