Observations note local legal cases, the DA office shakeup, Astros slump, and letters about the North Waco water system.
Rev. D. C. McLeaish, director of the Regis Retirement Residence in Austin, was honored at a Garden Room reception from 3 to 4 PM on Regis Sunday. The observance marked the 11th anniversary of his priest ordination. J. P. McElligott spoke for residents, presenting prayers and thanks. Rev. McLeaish thanked attendees and shared a brief reflection on what it means to be a priest. Floral arrangements and refreshments were provided by Aegis Activities Committee. About 150 people attended.
Batt J Bernetti of the U S Army Corps of Engineers says eleven men, three pickup trucks and one 12 ton truck cleared trash at the Airport and Speegleville parks from July 5 to July 7, under the Waco Reservoir project office.
The Waco Independent School District board approves for 1966 67 transfers and appointments. Bobby B Farney moves from North Waco Elementary to Alta Vista Elementary principal. Florence Marie Currie becomes Nalley Elementary principal. Robt L Reese becomes Title 1 instructional materials and equipment consultant. Walter W Steinmann to Mountainview Elementary principal with Wade Herring taking Brook Ave. as principal. William N Strother moves to West Junior High as assistant principal. Dean Madison becomes North Junior assistant principal. South Junior gains an open position and Mary D Farmer receives a 1966 67 leave for advanced study.
The Esquires captured first prize at the Westview Rollercade Battle of the Bands last Saturday, winning $50 and a shot at the finals on August 20. Prospective bands may compete each Saturday for the prize and a chance to record, by calling Bob Sams at PR 26410. The Unique s booked July 29 and 30 at the Rollercade, with past Waco hits on the bestseller list.
Karem Arab Patrol members and wives will travel by bus to Houston to see the Astros Pirates game on Sunday July 24. George M. Fadal of 1900 Colcord, president, arranged the trip and will direct the excursion.
Colonel Harold T. Babb of James Connally Air Force Base awarded the Twelfth Air Force Certificate of Appreciation to Don Harrison at the Jay Dee meeting in the Alice Center Inn. The honor cited Harrison for aiding the Jay Cee U S O and the Air Force by organizing guided tours of Waco for visiting servicemen over the past two years. Attending were Jay Cee president Randy Gray and Dr. Joel Chance U S O Director and Mrs Chance. Also advised summer sun care with cotton make-up pads for eye protection.
