A grand jury is urged to probe teen alcohol sales in Waco after two youths admitted planning the murder of Walter Dillard during a drinking spree. Negro Youths Put on Scene at Hootennanny Show
Five Negro girls and a Negro boy staged a free night performance at the Hootennanny. Hubert Smith pleaded guilty to fighting in city court, fined $25 and jailed until paid. The girls, underage, were placed with a probation officer and returned to parents. A claims of slapping sparked a scuffle police controlled to prevent a larger disturbance.

Houston District of the Texas Highway Department plans to install television cameras in the Baytown La Porte Tunnel near Houston as part of an experimental surveillance system to reduce accidents and monitor traffic.
Youths face murder charge for killing W. G. Dillard
Two 18 year old youths Robert Ferrell Wilson and Billy W. White, both of 1800 Seneca and 1914 Clay, were charged in Justice Joe Johnsons court Thursday with the murder of Walter George Dillard on August 6. Wilson also faced a hijacking charge near Midway on August 5. Jackie Weldon Eubank, 18, implicated in the robbery, was charged as well. The defendants claim they did not intend to kill Dillard but planned robbery. Dillard was knocked into the Bosque river and drowned. Arrests were made by Sheriff C. C. Maxey, Deputy Joe Thompson and others. Confessions were obtained by multiple officers and state officials. The crime reportedly originated in a LaSalle beer joint.

Electrician Mike Dyer Honored by City for July
Mike E. Dyer, an electrician in the Traffic Engineering and Electrical Division, was named the outstanding City of Waco employee for July. A Waco resident since 1940, he has led city electrical services and fire alarms, aided by tornado cleanup in 1953, and holds a Master and Contractor's License.

Axtell Killing Calls Halt To Long Feud
Lily Mae Turner charged with murdering her husband B. W. Turner in Axtell claims self defense in a district attorney's view. She shot him between the eyes after he threatened their 14 year old daughter. The couple, longtime feuders who once ran a local grocery, were separated at times.
