All Out Effort to Attract Clark Industry to Waco

The Waco Real Estate Board and the Waco Association Home Builders joined the Waco Chamber of Commerce in an all out push to bring Clark Brothers Company to Waco. They presented a joint resolution to General Manager Sidney Dobbins promising full cooperation for Clark employees, who then reviewed the plan for moving to Waco.

Fire damages washateria at 2000 South 8th Street

A Sunday fire damaged the upper part of a washateria at 2000 South 8th Street. Discovered about 6:30 by neighbors, the source traced to electrical wiring. The washateria was owned and operated by S. C. Harlan of Old Corsicana Road. Firemen concluded the blaze started from wiring.

Robinsons Peyton Still Off Again For Mayor

Judge Bartlett in the 54th District Court voided Robinson mayoral results after ruling ward one ballots were illegal and ordered a new election. Peyton Still remains entangled with Everett O Dowd who led the council during the disputed vote as Walter Tandy and Still prepare for a runoff.

One Millionth DPS Fingerprint Record Documented

Texas Department of Public Safety marked its one millionth criminal fingerprint card. The record numbered 1,000,000 belonged to a one year old Dawson County boy arrested for theft. Veteran fingerprint expert J H Singleterry stamped the historic card.

Run-off Candidate Opinion Shapes Robinson Mayoral Race

Lawyers for Walter L. Tandy argue only Walter Tandy and Peyton Still can be legal run-off candidates after the original vote equal count. P. W. Shelton, superintendent of LaVega Schools, announced schools will start September 8. A 98,545 science addition is under construction and expected to be ready for opening. Equipment worth 21,000 has already been purchased. The federal government financed zero dollars of this.

They Hit Waco With Checks

James Milter Jackson alias Fats Jackson and Jereline Smotherman were indicted by McLennan County for forgery and passing bad checks in Waco. They traveled in a 1959 black Galaxie, hitting supermarkets and other stores before moving on.
