Ross Hendricks a contortionist from Superior, traveling with a dentist, arrived in Estherville with companions. After failed pleas to a woman to join his show, he drank whiskey and poison, leaving a note to a Mrs. Neal. He died within minutes at a butcher shop, with a coroner's inquest attributing death to a self-administered strychnine overdose. He was about 27 or 28, weighed roughly 160 pounds, and had limited funds.
