Roosevelts New Deal Backed Amid Bank Closings
In Babson Park Florida on March 20 1939 readers hear praise for the New Deal as banks nationwide closed and reopened with calm. Cannon and allied voices vanish from influence while a jobless Italian girl donates five dollars and a gold chain to the treasury. The American Legion leader defends budget balance and condemns opposition as unpatriotic. The piece blends wartime rhetoric with praise for Roosevelt and calls for unity to restore prosperity.
