Commercial club organized for Estherville and county

A Friday meeting at the court house hall launched plans for a commercial club or booster group to aid Estherville and Emmet county. Sixty signatures were collected toward organization, committees formed, dues set at 1.00 monthly, and a March 16 meeting scheduled to elect officers and finalize the board. Postmaster Allen announced the new government building site as Bemis property, with public interest urging broad townwide benefit over local gain.

Hogs Reach High Prices Not Seen in Years

Grand Jury to hear Hendrickson over land company scam

W A Hendrickson, agent for the National Land Company of Algona, faces a grand jury charge for obtaining signatures to contracts by misrepresentation. He secured Dickinson county farmers to pay $1 per acre for advertising and sale efforts. Sheriff Jones tracked him to Huntington, brought him back, and bound him over for $1,000. Witnesses included Mrs M A Dexter of Burt, who denies knowledge of the methods while admitting she paid for the agreements. The scheme allegedly used threats to pressure settlements, with offices in Algona and Burt and allegedly advertised via a telephone pole listing.
