Grand Jury to hear Hendrickson over land company scam
W A Hendrickson, agent for the National Land Company of Algona, faces a grand jury charge for obtaining signatures to contracts by misrepresentation. He secured Dickinson county farmers to pay $1 per acre for advertising and sale efforts. Sheriff Jones tracked him to Huntington, brought him back, and bound him over for $1,000. Witnesses included Mrs M A Dexter of Burt, who denies knowledge of the methods while admitting she paid for the agreements. The scheme allegedly used threats to pressure settlements, with offices in Algona and Burt and allegedly advertised via a telephone pole listing.
