Farmer's Institute session praised as best county meeting

The Farmer's Institute concluded a session hailed as one of the best ever held in the county. Organizers touted strong attendance and productive discussions guiding local agricultural efforts and future programs.

Two Days Session Opens At Emmet County Fair

A two days session of the Emmet County Farmer's Institute and Mid winter Fair closed at K of P Hall. The meeting drew farmers and townspeople with prayers, welcomes, papers and talks by W. S. Reid, Prof. Mosher of Ames, and A. Lilly of Algona. Exhibits included grain, culinary, and baking contests with awards. Raymond Woods won a scholarship in the Ames short course, and next year’s officers and location were decided.

Death claims Mrs. Joseph N. Lee after long illness

Mrs. Christ ie Ellingson Lee died Sunday at 9 00 a m after a yearlong battle with stomach cancer. A pioneer of Emmet County she settled near Wallingford in 1870, lived in Estherville and Des Moines, and raised six children. Surviving are four daughters and two sons. Funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church and interment followed in Des Moines. A Presbyterian Ladies League supper is announced for Friday at the church dining room.

Land fraud case arrests man Hendrickson in Dickinson County

Dickinson County sheriff Fred Jones arrested Will A Hendrickson near Huntington on a charge of obtaining money by false pretense tied to a land company based in Algona alleged to be fraudulent in advertising and listing land. The paper notes Hendrickson may be an unwitting victim and that the Algona firm’s contracts appear fair yet are turned over to third parties demanding payment for unseen promises. The arrest might halt the firm's deceptive contracts for a time.

A stream of short updates from Estherville area residents. J Blomquist visited from Dunnell on Tuesday while Dr H B Frater moved offices from the Coon building. Chis Rosenberger was ill last week but recovered. Frank Appel, summoned from Chicago for his father’s funeral, spent a few days with his brother. Mr and Mrs Wm Wurat returned from a trip to New Orleans and Cuba and praised Cuba’s climate. Kennedy of De Kalb shipped a carload of horses from Estherville, joined by Henry Hickey arriving to oversee land matters.
