Memory Restored Heroine Seeks Hidden Life Change

Joyce Ashton a poor stenographer loses memory after a taxi crash in Chicago. Two years later a fall from a horse restores memory and reveals she is Frills, wife of Nell Packard a rich California fruit packer. She pieces together her past from letters and friends, suspects a baby Sophie cared for may be hers, and grapples with an affair with Maitland while meeting poet Robert Ainsworth in San Francisco. She debates how to act to win back Nell and protect others as she navigates love, identity, and allegiance.
