Incomplete results show L. J. Dickinson of Algona leading Frank P. Woods for the tenth district congressman seat by about three thousand votes with Emmet County favoring Woods. Local county offices feature J. J. Klopp defeating O. O. Ressell for auditor and Warren Pullen defeating Jas. Coon in Estherville district. Official tallies will follow next week.

Another Big Wash Out Hits Rock Island Line
A heavy rain south of Iowa Falls washed out nearly a half mile of the Rock Island railroad again after recent repairs. Passenger trains are detoured via Manley, running about six hours late into Spencer. In other news, Spencer soldier Chris S. Anderson of Spencer, brother of Dr. J. L. Anderson of Fostoria, was killed in France on May 16. He enlisted in the aviation service, later moved to infantry, and served at 29 years old, arriving from Denmark at age 12. Dr. Taylor Morton of Emmet County was commissioned first lieutenant in the U S Army Medical Department.

Fatal auto accident near Spirit Lake claims two lives
On Saturday evening a head on collision between a Spirit Lake Ford sedan and a locally built racer near Spirit Lake and Arnoldy Park killed two occupants instantly and two more died later. Drivers Roy Christensen and Leonard were among the dead. Dewey Weed was among the injured. The racer, driven at high speed with one light, lacked visibility and crashed into the sedan. Surviving passengers suffered serious bruises. medical aid arrived too late for two. The bodies were returned to Spirit Lake for funeral arrangements.

Memorial Day Observed In Estherville With Veterans Rites
Memorial Day services honored local veterans of the G. A. R. and Woodmen lodges. Members from Masons Elks Odd Fellows Red Cross and several hundred school children followed by the band attended services at the Methodist church. The program featured instrumental numbers by the high school orchestra solos by Perl Bemis and Lattin a vocal by Fred Albertson readings by C. I. Haynes and Rev. Caitlin and a Gettysburg speech by A. Snyder. Attorney J. W. Morse delivered the address in a measured forceful manner and ritual services followed at East Side Cemetery.

Two men were sentenced by Judge Lee to five years in the state penitentiary for theft and robbery and were taken to Anamosa by Sheriff Nivison. North Star Lodge at the Masonic Hall dedicated a service flag in honor of members serving the country, with Eastern Star presenting the flag, Rev. Hock delivering the acceptance, Morse delivering the dedication speech, and nine stars honoring named members. Music featured a quartet and piano solos by Harker.
