Hog Cholera Warning Signs for Unimmunized Pigs
This item outlines varied and non specific symptoms of hog cholera in pigs, stressing that most contagious animal diseases lack uniform signs. It lists warning signs such as hiding in the hog house, eyelid crust, weak unsteady gait, red belly discoloration, yellow scour, convulsions, vomiting, and extreme prostration, noting deaths can precede visible sickness in others.
Hog cholera herd health and vaccination guidance
The veterinarian should inspect sick animals at outbreak onset and conduct post mortem studies as needed. While no cure exists, increasing serum and virus doses for uninfected herd mates can reduce heavy losses. Vaccination before an outbreak, ideally around weaning, is advised as a prudent safety measure.

Screwworm Outbreak Indicated by Survey Here
An explosive screwworm outbreak, possibly worse than 1935, may occur in the Southwest and Midwest because April screw worm fly counts in southern Texas were three times higher than a year ago. Large numbers of cattle and livestock are moving by truck, with extensive shipments from infested areas to northern ranges. The spread hinges on proper wound treatment when loading and unloading animals. Dave Conrady left Saturday evening for Minneapolis to begin work as Rock Island railroad operator.

County agent M O Thalken observes a variety plot comparing disease resistance across seven types, noting Gopher and Iowa 105 slow rust, Hancock Vanguard nearly rust free, and minor blight and smut across all varieties.
