The Estherville editorial cites a Portland cement brochure urging highway upgrades and notes projected traffic growth. It questions government funding, high auto taxes, and federal taxes, advocating rubber conservation and cheaper licenses while urging citizen involvement in safety and road upkeep.
WE FEEL THE EFFECT OF SELECTIVE SERVICE DRAFT
The piece discusses social and economic impacts of the selective service draft on communities. It notes reduced spending by young men, decreased business for youth-oriented services, shifting production in food-related industries, and a call for older veterans to rejoin national service while recognizing the value of all who contribute.
Citizens offer homegrown ideas to aid police patrols
Readers propose practical steps to increase police efficiency and safety, including more foot patrols and targeted use of resources. The writer praises officers but notes moments when visibility or timing could be improved, recalling a night near the post office and a stray sense of being watched.
