Weather lifts as northwest Iowa warms after cold stint
Relief from a harsh two week cold spell came Sunday and Monday as northwest Iowa temperatures rise with fair, warmer days forecast for the next two. The region logged below zero lows on five of the past six days, with two days below zero highs. Snow totaling 0.36 inches melted to bring ground accumulation to 15 inches and created drifting conditions. Roads remained blocked and crews reopened primary and secondary routes. In Dolliver trains were halted Friday by line blockages, and school dismissed early to allow bus routes home before dark due to drifted and icy roads. Attendance was low across grades and two buses failed to complete routes. Mrs Morton is hospitalized with pneumonia, while Mrs Lyman and Mrs Weight Jett travel home to North Dakota after illness and deaths in the area.
