Buffalo fishing overtakes spear method on icy West Okoboji
West Okoboji reports a brisk buffalo fishing season as gill nets with four inch mesh replace traditional spear work. Several nets, including a state tested model, capture buffalo from under the ice through holes. Harold Hinshaw nets about a thousand pounds daily with plans for twenty more nets as catches exceed prior spearing season totals. Spirit Lake Beacon.
