Alf Nicholson Died at Beaverton Alabama Veteran and Witty Local Figure
Alf Nicholson, a well known early section character, died at his Beaverton home after moving from Emmet county twelve to fourteen years ago. He left a large family, and one son came from Estherville for his funeral. Nicholson wrote to E P McEvoy and John Doran, often noting local interests. He was brother to the late Dr. Nicholson of Earl Dodge, a respected professional. A veteran, he was easygoing, droll, original, and witty, sometimes composing humorous verses. About 26 years ago, amid prohibition uproar, he penned biting verses critiquing jurors in Emmetsburg and their action against a dead innkeeper. His death is deeply mourned by friends who recall his warmth and honesty.
