Ottumwa readers report on Dr Crider a controversial healer promoting mind over medicine and dramatic recoveries. He plans a two day engagement at Hotel Orleans Estherville December 4 and 5 1903 offering oxygen therapy and cabinet treatments he says revive incurables and restore vigor.
A signed Otumwa statement extols Dr J Jackson Crider as a permanent resident with a 30 year infirmary, praising his medical service and listing many local officials and business figures who endorse him, followed by multiple dated affirmations of cures for catarrh and chronic diseases from patients across Iowa and Kansas.
Dr Crider proclaims superior results in treating catarrh and consumption using a South American remedy. He claims rapid relief from head and throat buildup and offers demonstrations. The text touts germicidal suppositories and a chloride of gold internal remedy as curatives, with decades of study and claims of modern validation.
A row of testimonials from Iowa residents and officials dated 1887 to 1898 tout Dr. Crider’s medical institute in Ottumwa for curing catarrh, deafness, goiter, asthma, and general debility. Authors claim long afflictions resolved after paying hundred fifty dollars and undergoing Crider’s treatments, with notes from local clerks and judges.
