Church Dedication With Prominent Speakers Slated
The new Christiaan church, rebuilt after last winter’s fire, will be dedicated next Sunday December 7 at 10 o’clock. Dr Sharp will preach with Rev Duncan assisting and many visiting ministers expected to attend. The 500 seat hall features modern heating, electric lighting, a large basement for events, and a brick stone exterior. Investment is about thirty thousand dollars. December first will bring statewide increases in telephone rates and wages, with Western Electric employees receiving substantial raises and exchange rates adjusted to uniform levels by exchange size.

Death of Old Soldier Embury Passes at 74
Samuel Benjamin Embury died Friday morning at 320 South Third Street Estherville from a lingering illness. Funeral held Monday at 2 40 p m at the Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev. Wal ter Torbet officiating. Embury, born May 20 1844 in St Armand Quebec, served in Company 2 Bleweth Minnesota Infantry during the Civil War and later lived in Estherville for twenty years. He leaves a daughter Mrs John Singhes of Toronto and a stepson W H Hassing, plus four brothers and many nieces and nephews. He was known as a genial honest man and worked as a janitor in his later years.
