El Dorado Hills parents formed Run Por Courage after a 2008 Safeway trafficking case involving Vicki Zito’s daughter. The group expanded into education, employment and engagement initiatives and rebranded as Strands Global to broaden outreach with partner Ken Petersen of Apricot Lane.
Jay Chopp, a sixth grade math and science teacher, has played Bugle Taps at Marina Village Middle School and El Dorado Hills Middle School for six years to honor 9/11 victims. He performs five taps at the minute each plane struck targets. The practice marks nearly 3,000 lives lost and reflects on freedoms and history taught to students.
Rescue Union School District votes to buy two parcels totaling 21 acres on Sienna Ridge Road for a future school in a 1.625 million purchase and sale agreement. The district previously closed escrow on Bass Lake property for 300 thousand and will reevaluate Bass Lake after escrow.
El Dorado Hills Community Services District directors unanimously renamed the CSD pavilion the Norm Rowett Pavilion at a board meeting. Rowett, a longtime resident and tireless volunteer, died last October at age 78 after serving on multiple community groups and spearheading local projects.
