Chuck Hammond recalls 1955 Grace Community Center gathering in Louisville where Cassius Clay, 13, won six or seven awards while Hammond, 12, earned two. Hammond recalls his mother telling Clay out-loved him, naming Muhammad Ali before fame. The event highlights Clay as a rising local sports figure.
Preliminary results show Measure E leading 51 percent to 48 percent with a 1 711 vote swing and Measure G trailing by a similar margin as officials continue tallying ballots. The measures address permitting tied to road congestion and LOS standards, reviving a 1998 Y measure framework and overriding 2008 amendments.
The El Dorado County Elections Department aims to count about 10 500 ballots mostly provisional and mail in with final results due to the Secretary of State by July 8 and certification by July 15. A board member notes the measure replaces a 2008 amendment to Measure Y.
Incumbent Shiva Frentzen wins a second term for District 2 in El Dorado County with about 60.5 percent of the vote, defeating Dave Pratt by more than 2,300 votes. Frentzen vows to push a sound county fiscal plan and continue advocacy for residents and critical services.
Incumbent District 6 Assemblywoman Beth Gaines leads El Dorado County District 1 race with 2,431 votes to John Hidahl's 2,202 on election night. Counts still pending may shift results. Hidahl cites the 98 acre former Executive Golf Course as a campaign issue, aiming to keep open space in some form.
