The term of Dooly Superior Court convened Monday morning and is winding away in its usual quiet annals. The grand jury received its charge for about eight to nine hours, with lingering remarks on upholding the law against mob action. Several cases were tried, including a $300 verdict against J. S. Piavy in a consolidated matter and a $1,000 bank case against an unnamed party. About a dozen divorce actions were scheduled, and the term advances toward the Vordele Ice Company suit against T. R. Sims.
State school commissioner W. B. Merrett spoke at the courthouse on education. Hoke Smith was expected but did not arrive. Merrett argued for better schools and school houses in Georgia. A humorous remark about a bachelor and a baby closed the event.
