Mr J M Carmack a prominent Dooly county resident died at his home near Kerns Friday night around eight from pneumonia after about ten days illness. Interment was held Saturday afternoon at four with Masonic honors at the family burying ground near the home as friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Emory College Sophomore class held a banquet at the old institution and formed the Emory Banquet ing Club of 1901. Several fine toasts were given, including "To Our Orators" by Mr. W. H. Lasseter. Space limits prevent full publication of his excellent speech.
In Memory of Our Soldier Friend. Ray's Immune Regiment is mentioned with a death on the twelfth of April. Sammie Hawkins, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hawkins, died after service in June 1898. He united with Missionary Baptist church in 1898. Leaves four sisters two brothers and parents. Ebenezer cemetery burial. Written by Nettie and Birdie. Uoney, Ga. May 5, 1899.
