Braddy Wright, a youth, appeared before United States Commissioner Erwin on a charge of passing a raised one dollar bill with cipher beside the figure one at Barfield’s Pinehurst store. He claimed no knowledge of the tampering but evidence tied him to the transaction and he was bound over. Wright said he received the bill from a negro in a gun trade and later gave it to another negro to change at Barfield’s, who used the change and returned ten dollars. Barfield notified authorities. Wright’s father posted bond to delay jail until grand jury and U S court. The negro who passed the bill was later tried.
