Secretary of War Alger admits he was unaware Gen. Shafter had Michigan ties until after the Santiago campaign. New disclosures suggest additional items the secretary did not know until prompted by recent revelations.
The Vi enna city election for mayor and two aldermen to serve two years was held last Monday. With no opposition, 129 votes were cast electing W. C. Hamilton as mayor and O. S. Bazemore and Jas. M. Woodward as aldermen. The new council organized with committees and officers, electing C. W. Johns and T. A Adkins as marshals Col D. A. R. Crum as city attorney Russel Kellam as clerk and treasurer T. A. Cox as waterworks engineer and Jake Hooks as street laborer supervising the old Beck dump cart.
Miss Emmie Wilson wed Mr. T. T. Lytle of near Spalding in a well attended service at her parents home. The couple left for their new home near Montezuma after receiving many gifts. both praised as highly esteemed in Macon and Dooly counties.

Democratic ticket mayor W H Scandrett 226. aldermen J A Littlejohn 234, C M Killian 241, W B Seymour 254. The election will be challenged and an injunction was issued pending the contest hearing.
