In February 1870 President Grant appointed Pete Epiron Pracrese as assistant United States marshal. With two assistants he conducted the Dooly County national census for that year, from April 1 to August 1, counting 4,952 white and 4,855 colored people in ten districts. Cordele was then the Old Inn Brown plantation. Unadilla Pinehurst and Findlay were unknown.
