Entertainer Will D. Shaw Draws Big Audiences in South

Will D. Shaw known as Hearnest Willie headlines in Vienna at the Public Hall on Friday at 7:30 pm selling tickets 30c single 50c couple, 15c for children and a dollar for a family up to 12 boys and 13 girls. Newspapers praise his mix of mirth and pathos and note he has drawn larger crowds than Gov. Bob Taylor in several towns across Georgia and Tennessee.

Miss Annie Kaigler visits relatives at Oglethorpe. Ed Miller and Morgan of Americus hunted doves at Coney last week, wasting much ammunition. Farmers plant corn and cane for large crops. Rev. J. E. Powell of Arabs preaches at Ebenezer and becomes pastor, promising old time religion. Dr. T. A. Singleton, formerly of this place, is buried at Hopewell Schley County on the 14th, mourned by many friends.

Burial of Dr Pate in Unadilla by Masonic ceremony

Burial for Dr Pate took place in Unadilla Tuesday morning from the Baptist church. Rev A J Cheves of Montezuma preached a touching sermon. The Masonic fraternity conducted the grave ceremony and a large crowd attended. Mrs Pate remains in failing health and is not expected to recover from the shock.

Bar Association meeting sets civil docket for trial week

The Deely County Bar Association held a Saturday meeting to set civil docket cases for trial in the first week of Superior court. County attorneys were present. lists will be printed and furnished to lawyers and clients. Col Geo W Wooten was re elected President. Col D A R Crum resigned as Secretary and Col John W Powell was elected Secretary.

Death of Dr Pate Ends Towns Most Esteemed Citizen

Death of Dr R H Pate of Unadilla shocks the county. A physician who moved from Washington county in the 1850s, he became a leading, moral, civic force. In his home he exemplified Southern hospitality and kindness, caring for the sick regardless of means. He died at age 62 after a sudden stroke, leaving a bereaved family and wide sympathy from friends statewide.

Found A Good Bed Sam Smith Placed In Asylum

Sam Smith once a humble man in Vienna developed lunacy several months ago and burned clothes claiming poison and witch plots. He seized a family bed, was found in a locked room, and after a brief jail stay was sent to an asylum following lunacy charges and his belief that blacks plotted to kill him while whites could control others.

Progressive Whist Party Hosts Mrs Lewis Honor Guest Mamie Leonard

Mr and Mrs John F Lewis hosted a progressive whist party on Wednesday night in honor of guest Miss Mamie Leonard of Vienna. About ten couples from local society attended and enjoyed refreshments. First prize went to Mr B S Richardson and the booby prize to Capt J L Staten.
