The Vienna Progress for December 25 notes Christmas wishes and a flood of community updates. It reports visits by Dr J M Whitehead, Prof A F Ware, Rev C H Branch moving to Shellman, and social events at the Opera house. Mr. A H Pitts of Arabi arrived Monday morning and said the safes of the railroad and Patterson and Vickers had been found open sometime before 2 o'clock Sunday night. He could not learn further details.
Jno. C. Harrison of Hayneville and Miss Eliza McCormick united in marriage at the bride’s Pinehurst residence on Sunday afternoon. Friends extend hearty congratulations and best wishes to the couple.
Last Thursday night at about 9 o'clock the general merchandise store of Mr. N. J. Grantham ten miles east of Vienna near Tippett ville was destroyed by fire. When discovered the fire was under full headway and little of the contents were saved. The blaze is believed incendiary as no fire remained in the building after closing. Everything was well covered by insurance.
The Board of Education will conduct an examination of applicants for County School Commissioner of Dooly County for the unexpired term of Q. P. Swearingen, resigned December 31, 1894, at the Court House in Vienna. All applicants should be present early. By order of the Board. President C. Hamilton.
Howard Hill died at his Unadilla home after a prolonged cancer illness. A highly respected Dooly county citizen, he was a devoted husband and father of five, a progressive farmer, and active Methodist church member. Friends throughout the county mourn his loss and extend sympathy to his wife and children. December 19, 1894.
In a Baptist church ceremony at 11 30 the marriage of Hugh Arrington of Hartsboro and Florence Cunningham of Viinna was conducted by Rev. B B W Davis. The couple then shared a feast with family and friends before departing at 1 16 by train for their new life in Alabama with best wishes from all.

No guesses on the corn will be accepted after the night of Dee. 31st. Prizes awarded Jan. 1st 1895. Those who've not yet put in their guesses must do so by the 31st inst. Parties wanting a guess at the corn, who are not entitled to one, can get same by making a Shoe purchase of us between now and Dec. 31st. "$50.00 in gold will be given away" on Jan, ist as prom ised.
