Burglars blew open the Barfield and Horne store safe and the post office safe in Pinehurst last Friday night, taking $150 to $175 plus about $35 from the firm. A pocketbook and papers were found north of the depot, with no clue to the culprits. This marks the second such theft in Pinehurst this year.
Unadilla Georgia reports include Miss Dean Sanders a Cox College graduate returning home, Laura Young elected to fill a school vacancy, and the school term closing with over 200 pupils enrolled. Several teachers and locals travel for study or visits, with Nellie Thorpe set to teach in Havana Cuba this fall.

The spring term at Vienna Public School ended last Friday with literary music and elocution programs enjoyed by a crowded audience. Graduates were Misses Fannie and Louie Fenn Ethel Lasseter Mattie Lasseter Lucia Owen Jessie Myers and Miss Gordon Burns. Papers read by Lovie Fenn and Lucia Owen. Musical selections by Fannie Fenn Simie Boniske and O. M. Heard. Prof W H Lasseter gave the certificate address. Board member Dr H A Mobley announced faculty elections.
The Ki of P lodge in this city elected semi annual officers at the regular meeting on Monday night. Appointed posts include Chancellor Commander W. V. Harvard and Vice Chancellor H. A. Youmans with other officers D. A. Crum O. M. Heard H. J. Morgan L. R. Hobbs A. E. Walton. Installation will be at the next meeting with Hon. W. A. Dodson of Americus invited to attend and speak.
Mrs Pease of Lawrence Kansas lay in bed seven years due to kidney and liver trouble nervous prostration and debility. Morgan county official T. B. Baldwin resigns after 25 years in office due to ill health. His term ends July 1. Baldwin grew a Morgan trust fund from 27500 to 80000 for county children. The clerk of the superior court will oversee the election to select his successor. J. D. Hargrove, also long-serving in Dooly county, is noted as the current Ordinary.
A note from D W Harvarp thanking friends who stood by him in the recent selection and pledging to aid them if opportunity arises. He declares no political debts to pay and as a true citizen and state prohibitionist will vote for the best men and measures as he sees them.
A committee including Profs. W. P. Fleming Cordele R. O. Powell and H. C. Brown with Commissioner Greene is busy this week grading papers from the annual teachers license examination held Saturday. The work is expected to take the entire week.
A protracted meeting will commence at the Baptist church in this city next Sunday morning. The pastor will be assisted by Rev. W. Walker of Quitman, regarded as one of the region's best preachers. Everyone is invited to attend and support.
Mr. Platt McDonald left yesterday for Laurel Mississippi to join his brother Charlie McDonald in business there. Cordele News notes his Cordele and Dooly county friends wish him success in his new field.
On a Saturday morning near Raines Georgia George A Brown shot and killed John Carr a black farmhand after Carr threatened him and Brown called him from the yard Carr wielded a pitchfork and Brown fired near his home Brown claimed self defense and a coroner's jury ruled the death justifiable resulting in no charges.
The June monthly term of the City court of Vienna convened yesterday with a drawn jury ready to try criminal cases. Two African American defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced by Judge Henderson. The court adjourned at 1 PM due to absent parties and witnesses.
A newspaper notes a corrected marriage record stating Kate L Culpepper and Geo C Laisey were not married. The paper explains the mistaken issue arose from Ordinary records about a license issuance and apologizes for the error to all concerned.
