The flames consumed the wholesale house, Ray Grocery stock, J. P. Heard and Sheppard Bros building, and damaged electric, telegraph, and railroad property. Losses exceed $50,000 with multiple insured amounts. city lights were out for two nights until reconnections planned by Friday. Origin may be a locomotive spark igniting hay on a platform.

Death of Deputy Sheriff Tom Ray Near Coney
Deputy Sheriff Tom Ray dies at his home near Coney after a week of illness. He suffered a severe prior illness in January and never fully recovered.
