A large blaze hit Cordele on Wednesday afternoon at the ante Willis & Company warehouse along the Seaboard and Atlanta Birmingham rail lines. The flames consumed the wholesale house, Ray Grocery stock, J. P. Heard and Sheppard Bros building, and damaged electric, telegraph, and railroad property. Losses exceed $50,000 with multiple insured amounts. city lights were out for two nights until reconnections planned by Friday. Origin may be a locomotive spark igniting hay on a platform.

Death of Deputy Sheriff Tom Ray Near Coney
Deputy Sheriff Tom Ray dies at his home near Coney after a week of illness. He suffered a severe prior illness in January and never fully recovered.
