Farmers Union to Build Settlement City Near Atlanta

Georgia division of the Farmers National Co operative Union plans a settlement city at the Atlanta West Point and Atlanta Birmingham and Atlantic junction less than ten miles from Atlanta. The union will move its large implement factory from Fairburn to the site, owning a factory capitalized at 50000 dollars with stock held entirely by members. The project includes 300 acres of land, homes for workers, and a cotton school to teach cotton classification.

Dudes Triumph 5 to 2 Over Henpecks in City Series

Columbus’s 104-year-old Dick Smith Once Guarded $968000

Columbus, July 28. Dick Smith, who says he is 104, claims to have remembered Thomas Jefferson. Born in Virginia, he came to Columbus in 1884 and labored near Horse Shoe Bend. During the Civil War he was a bodyguard for a planter in Albany and carried a bag of money valued at $968,000 from Atlanta to Albany amid threats and captures.

Roll of the Dooly Infantry Enlistees 1861 Pulaski Times list

From the Pulaski Times July 18 1861 a roll of Dooly county soldiers enlisting in the war is printed. Names include Capt Joseph Armstrong 1st Lt Redding T Coley 2nd Jas W Carter Ensign PKE Gilbert 1st Sgt Thos I Collier and many others with ranks from noncommissioned to private. The list ends with sect officers and continues beyond the excerpt.

United States Senator elects Joseph F Johnston of Birmingham to fill the Pettus vacancy and serve the unexpired Pettus term plus the additional term to 1915.
